A new National Distracted Driving Coalition report, Best Practices in Crafting & Implementing Distracted Driving Legislation, is now available. The report provides insight on key elements of a successful law, model language, strategies that can be used to pass legislation, and other considerations like public education efforts.
Laws discouraging distracted driving and other dangerous behaviors are a critical component of the Safe System approach, which was adopted in 2022 by the U.S. Department of Transportation to help address the mounting carnage on U.S. roads. Effective laws, coupled with appropriate enforcement, can help encourage “Safer People” on public roads and save lives.
The Coalition invites policymakers, law enforcement, safety advocates, and other stakeholders to download and view the report here. Other Coalition reports can be accessed here.
